On April 20th, invited by the Key Laboratory of Cellular Physiology, Ministry of Education, Professor Hao Chuanming from Huashan Hospital affiliated to Fudan University and Dr. Ji Qunsheng, co-founder of Jingyin Pharmaceutical, came to our university to give an academic report. Professor Guan Youfei, director of the Key Laboratory, presided over the report meeting.
At the symposium, Hao Chuanming, with the topic of "Challenges and Hopes of Diabetic Nephropathy," systematically reviewed the major challenges faced in this field, focusing on the basic and clinical research frontiers of diabetic nephropathy. He pointed out that with the continuous increase in the prevalence of diabetes, the management situation of diabetic nephropathy is severe, and the existing limited treatment methods and complex disease mechanisms remain prominent. Through mining clinical data, he shared the latest findings in diabetic nephropathy regarding the damage of the glomerular filtration barrier and the regulation of inflammatory fibrosis. Furthermore, from the perspective of basic research, he deeply explored the function of SIRT1 in acute kidney injury and proposed a new treatment strategy based on enhancing the NAD synthesis pathway. Ji Qunsheng, focusing on the theme of "Developing Long-acting and Safe Antithrombotic siRNA New Therapies," introduced his cutting-edge exploration in the field of nucleic acid drug research and development. He pointed out that although traditional antithrombotic drugs such as warfarin and new oral anticoagulants are widely used, issues such as bleeding risk, medication compliance, and limited duration of action have not been fundamentally resolved. His team designed and optimized siRNA molecules targeting factor XI of the coagulation pathway using RNA interference technology. Through the collaborative innovation of chemical modification and delivery system, they significantly extended the half-life of the drug in the body and achieved precise inhibition of thrombosis. The reports of the two experts were profound yet accessible, closely related to the frontiers, and created a lively academic atmosphere on site. During the interactive session, discussion guests Professor Lu Limin from Fudan University and Professor Sang Aimin from Nantong University participated in the exchange, and in-depth discussions were held with the participating teachers and students on hot topics such as diabetic nephropathy, the clinical translation path of siRNA drugs, and the safety of delivery systems.

Guan Youfei summarized the report meeting. He stated that the reports presented by the two experts not only had a solid theoretical foundation but also closely aligned with clinical translational needs, fully reflecting the significance of combining basic research with clinical practice. He encouraged young researchers in the laboratory to actively follow the frontier developments in disease mechanisms and drug research, dare to engage in interdisciplinary collaboration, and promote the production of original achievements. In the future, the key laboratory will further strengthen academic exchanges, promote basic research and clinical translation, and make greater contributions to serving the construction of "Healthy China".
