June 11 is the fifth organ donation day in China. In order to widely publicize the concept of organ donation to the society, spread the spirit of "life relay, everlasting love", and save more lives and health, the first Hospital of Shanxi Medical University held the theme activity of "Life Relay Vanguard" Chinese Organ Donation Day.

Human organ donation has been carried out in Shanxi Province since 2012. By the end of May 2021, a total of 62000 people have been voluntarily registered for human organs, with a total of 451 cases of organ donation and 1320 cases of large organ donation. Over the past nine years, 1292 patients with organ failure have been rescued.

The first Hospital of Shanxi Medical University took the lead in carrying out liver transplantation operation independently and successfully in the province in 2001. The patients treated by the first Hospital have survived for up to 18 years. At present, the first Hospital of Shanxi Medical University has routinely carried out liver transplantation, and 31 cases have been successfully completed since May 2020, and a cooperation agreement has been signed with the Organ Transplant Center of Tianjin First Central Hospital to jointly build a regional medical center for liver transplantation in Shanxi Province.

At the event site, multidisciplinary medical staff such as hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery and liver transplantation center, neurology, neurosurgery, critical care department, etc, provide consultation and treatment services for the public, popularize health knowledge, distribute popular science brochures for organ donation and liver transplantation, introduce the concept and significance of organ donation and the ways of voluntary registration of organ donation, patiently guide caring people to complete the voluntary registration operation of online organ donation, and guide more social forces to participate in and support the cause of human organ donation.
