    The First Medical Pragmatics Course in China was Launched in Our School

    On the afternoon of November 26th, the opening ceremony of "Medical Pragmatics" was held in the Academic Lecture Hall of Teaching Administration Building of Zhongdu Campus. LiYue'e, the former deputy director of the standing committee of Shanxi Provincial People's Congress as well as the professor in Modern Linguistics, Yu Guodong, the distinguished professor in the "Prosperity Talent Project" of Ocean University of China, Xie Jun, the vice president of Shanxi Medical University, Zhang Xuanping, the director of the Academic Affairs Department, Wang Zhidong, the deputy director of the Academic Affairs Department, Zheng Jie, the member of the course team from Nursing School, Du Mengqi from the Department of Foreign Languages and more than 80 representatives of students of various departments attended the offline ceremony. The opening ceremony was presided over by Zhang Xuanping.

                 

    At the beginning of the ceremony, Xie Jun delivered a welcome speech. He briefly introduced the progression of school teaching reform and development and expressed the gratefulness to Professor Li and her teaching team on behalf of the university for setting "Medical Pragmatics", the first medical humanities course in our university. He encouraged the students to study hard, master the essence of the course, integrate theory with practice, and become the power for promoting their own development and becoming excellent doctors.

    Using the real case with vivid humorous language, Prof. Li then introduced the main content and characteristics of the new course, especially the importance of language skills in the context of doctor-patient communication. The university invited Prof. Yu Guodong from Ocean University of China to give an online lecture with the theme of "Understanding Medical Interaction: Language Use and lts Importance". Professor Yu showed the design and application of clinical discourse, analyzed the method of theory constructing and practical problem solving by using language means, and gave in details how to use conversation analysis research method to improve effective communication with patients.The lectures are highly recognized by both online and offline teachers and students.

    It was reported that the course of "Medical pragmatics" was launched in China for the first time, which is of great significance and practical value for deepening the reform of medical education and teaching and promoting the construction of new medical curriculum system. Through learning "Medical Pragmatics", the medical students can effectively use discourse expression, strengthen communication skills, improve their interpersonal communication ability and social adaptability in medical practice, and greatly help improve doctor-patient relationship harmony and medical service satisfaction.
