The higher education evaluation professional institution, Research Center, released the "2023 Research Center China Best Disciplines Ranking." Our university's disciplines including Specialized Medicine, Public Health and Preventive Medicine, Basic Medicine, Clinical Medicine, Nursing, and Marxist Theory were listed. Among them, Specialized Medicine ranked first in the country and was selected as one of China's top disciplines. It is also the only top discipline selected in Shanxi Province. Following its first-place ranking in the previous year, Specialized Medicine has once again maintained its position as the best discipline in the country this year. As a leading discipline carrying the significant mission of our school's "Double First-Class" initiative, Specialized Medicine has shown strong development momentum with the care and support of the provincial party committee and government in recent years. It has received approval for 12 national-level key research projects (from the National Natural Science Foundation, Ministry of Science and Technology), including 2 national-level major projects. Two individuals have been awarded national-level talent titles, and Professor Li Sijin has been shortlisted as a valid candidate for the 2023 Chinese Academy of Engineering academician.

In addition, in the "2023 Research Center China Best Disciplines Ranking," our school's Marxist Theory discipline made its debut on the list, entering the top 50% nationwide. The Public Health and Preventive Medicine discipline ranked 23rd (29%), rising 7 places compared to 2022. The Basic Medicine discipline ranked 36th (31%), rising 9 places compared to 2022, and the Nursing discipline ranked 17th (23%), rising 5 places compared to 2022. The overall level of discipline construction has shown a comprehensive improvement.

In recent years, our university has been guided by serving the major strategic needs of the country and promoting people's health and well-being. We have adhered to the fundamental task of moral education and implemented Shanxi Province's "Double First-Class" development strategy and the "Hundred Billion Project" for higher education. Our goal is to build a "nationally first-class research-oriented medical university." In line with the school's 14th Five-Year Plan and the action plan for "Double First-Class" initiative, we have proposed an innovative "2+1+1" construction concept, focusing on "three breakthroughs," "four first-class," and "five transformations." We have continuously strengthened top-level design and consolidated the foundation for discipline development, promoting high-quality development of our disciplines through improving systems and mechanisms, cultivating talent teams, and constructing research platforms.

Since 2022, our university has established 1 key laboratory of the Ministry of Education and 1 innovation center for basic pharmaceutical research of the Ministry of Education. We have initially achieved a support system with at least one national-level research platform for each first-level discipline. Our university was approved as a national high-level public health school and jointly released the "Shanxi Declaration for High-Quality Development of Public Health Education." We hosted the National Forensic Science and Technology Development Forum and released the "Jin Temple Declaration" for Chinese Forensic Science. We have also established collaborative innovation centers for cutting-edge medicine with Tsinghua University and Future Medical Centers with Huada Gene. The exchange and cooperation have gradually deepened, and the influence of our disciplines has significantly increased. We have nurtured 2 locally grown national-level talents, and under the leadership of high-end talents, the construction of discipline teams has become increasingly perfect. We have continuously obtained national-level major (key) scientific research projects, such as the National Natural Science Foundation Key Projects, National Major Scientific Research Instrument Development Special Projects, National Key R&D Program Projects, National Science and Technology Major Projects, National Science and Technology Support Program Projects, and projects from the International Atomic Energy Agency. The carrying capacity of research projects has been continuously strengthened. The construction of first-class majors and courses has been improved and increased. Many teachers and students have achieved excellent results in international and national large-scale competitions, and high-level research achievements continue to emerge. The quality and quantity of achievement transformation and social service outcomes are fruitful.
