On the afternoon of January 29th, Wang Jun, the Secretary of the University Party Committee, met with Zhang Chen, Member of the Party Committee and Vice President of Capital Medical University, as well as our outstanding alumnus and Deputy Director of the Science and Technology Department at Capital Medical University, Zhou Jian, at Yingze Campus. They held discussions and exchanges regarding the application for the National Natural Science Fund Regional Innovation Development Joint Fund. Vice President Zhang Yanbo, along with leaders from the University Office, Department of Science and Technology, and the Dental Hospital participated in the meeting.

Wang Jun extended a warm welcome to Zhang Chen and his delegation on behalf of the university. He introduced the basic situation of the university and its future development plans, emphasizing the significant progress and achievements made in cooperation with Tsinghua University School of Medicine and Huada Group. Wang Jun pointed out that the number of projects and funding from the National Natural Science Fund to some extent reflects the level of basic research in universities, serving as an important indicator for evaluating the performance of basic scientific research at universities. As a leading institution in medical education in Shanxi Province, Shanxi Medical University shoulders the important task of promoting high-quality development of medical education in Shanxi. He hoped that both sides would fully leverage their respective strengths, identify points of scientific convergence, enhance academic exchanges and cooperation, and jointly promote innovation and development in medical education.

Zhang Chen mentioned that the National Natural Science Fund Regional Innovation Development Joint Fund aims to attract and pool advantageous scientific research forces, focus on key scientific issues in regional development related to major demands of regional economic and social development, conduct basic research and applied basic research, promote cross-regional and cross-sectoral collaborative innovation. He expressed the hope to collaborate with Shanxi Medical University, particularly focusing on the pathogenesis of neurological and psychiatric diseases, to jointly apply for the Regional Innovation Development Joint Fund, realizing comprehensive cooperation in cultivating high-level basic research talents and promoting the construction of a regional innovation system.
