In recent days, the Education Department of Shanxi Province announced the list of recognized advanced collectives, model teachers, and outstanding workers in the education system of Shanxi Province for the year 2023. Our School of Public Health at the university has been honored with the title of "Advanced Collective of Shanxi Province Education System".

The School of Public Health at our university was established in 1953 and is one of the earliest departments founded in the early days of the People's Republic of China. Over the past seventy years, the school has consistently focused on cultivating students with high moral and academic standards. It has nurtured over 7,000 high-level research talents, represented by academicians such as Xu Jianguo, Tian Zhigang, and Li Renke, outstanding management talents represented by Yang Qing and Liang Xiaofeng, and excellent medical and health talents represented by individuals like Guo Jian'e, an outstanding figure in the national fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. These talents have been safeguarding the health of the people in North China and across the nation.

Since the comprehensive implementation of the "Six Excellence and One Top" plan 2.0 and the initiation of the "Double First-Class" undergraduate program by the Ministry of Education in 2019, the school has continuously strengthened the construction of the connotation of undergraduate programs. Two of its majors have been selected as national first-class undergraduate program construction sites. The school has always adhered to serving major national strategies, building a new highland for scientific research, undertaking 134 national key research and development projects and projects at or above the provincial and ministerial levels in the past five years, and was approved as the "Key Laboratory for Coal Environmental Pathogenesis and Prevention" by the Ministry of Education. It has persisted in being guided by party building, leveraging its professional advantages to tackle difficulties in areas such as birth defects, hepatitis B, and cervical cancer. During the epidemic prevention and control period, it has leveraged its professional expertise to support joint prevention and control efforts. Relying on major consulting projects of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, it has provided suggestions for high-quality development and carried out health science popularization to serve major public health and health needs. It was selected as part of the "High-Level International Talent Training Innovative Practice Project" and has collaborated with nearly 30 universities in countries including the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, and South Denmark, achieving more than 10 important outcomes.

The university has been selected as one of the 18 high-level construction units for schools of public health in China, which has brought new development opportunities for the School of Public Health. It has constructed a "6 New, 6 High" development path and a new blueprint for development. In collaboration with Peking University School of Medicine and others, it has established a new mechanism for public health cooperation between universities and CDCs in Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei, and Inner Mongolia, and has led the release of the "Shanxi Declaration for High-Quality Development of Public Health Education", marking a new chapter in the high-quality development of China's public health education industry.
