On April 9, the National Health Commission released the 2024 national tertiary public hospital performance monitoring results. The First Hospital of our university was once again awarded the“A+”grade, ranking first among provincial-level and above hospitals in the province. With a “CMI value of 1.27”, the hospital earned “A++”in both operational efficiency and patient satisfaction, delivering an outstanding report on the high-quality development of public hospitals with solid strength.

Putting people’s health at the forefront, the First Hospital has continuously improved medical quality and service capabilities through performance reform. Upholding safety as a bottom line, the hospital ranks first in the province in treating complex and critical illnesses (CMI 1.27), with steady growth in high-difficulty Level 4 surgeries and significantly enhanced emergency and critical care capacity. It boasts the province’s largest number of national key specialties.
The hospital advances the building of a “compassionate hospital” by launching patient-friendly initiatives such as “escort-free wards”, “one registration valid for three days,” and “one form for the whole hospital.” The launch of the internet hospital, intelligent whole-course disease management, medical insurance “face-scanning” payment, and “bedside settlement” have been widely praised, earning the hospital “A++” in patient satisfaction.
Driven by innovation, the hospital has built a collaborative system of basic research, clinical research, and innovation translation, maintaining provincial leadership in scientific research strength. Its approved National Natural Science Foundation projects have ranked first in the province’s medical and health sector for four consecutive years, with breakthroughs in both GCP project approvals and high-level talent introduction and cultivation.
The hospital has introduced multiple high-tech specialty procedures to innovate the diagnosis and treatment of complex and severe diseases. It houses the province’s first clinical research center for brain–computer interface and the only dual-recorded stem cell clinical research institution in Shanxi, empowering medical services with technology.
Committed to the public welfare nature of public hospitals, the hospital actively expands high-quality medical resources to primary-level facilities. Through co-construction, close medical alliances, telemedicine, the “Thousand Physicians Capacity-Building Program,” mobile medical services, and other models, it delivers advanced technologies, management expertise, and quality care to grassroots institutions, helping prefecture- and county-level hospitals achieve substantial improvements in the “national assessment.”
This re-accreditation of A+, rising CMI value, and dual A++ ratings represent high national recognition of the hospital’s comprehensive strength and a new starting point for future development. The First Hospital will continue to center on people’s health, strive for new heights in high-quality development, and build a top-tier national research-oriented hospital. It will safeguard the health of people in Shanxi with higher-level medical services and contribute to the high-quality development of regional medical and health services and the construction of Healthy Shanxi.
