On May 11th - 12th, the 57th Sports Meeting of SXMU was held in the stadium of the Zhongdu Campus. Party Secretary Zhang Junlong, President Li Sijin, Deputy Party Secretary Wang Jun and He Peifeng, Party Standing Committee Member and Secretary of Inspection Commission Dang Zhifeng, Party Standing Committee Member and Vice President Wang Hongwei, Vice President Xie Jun, Party Standing Committee Member and Vice President Zhang Hui, Party Standing Committee Member and Dean of the First Clinical Medical School Wang Binquan, Party Standing Committee Member and Party Secretary of the First Clinical Medical School Chen Liping, Party Standing Committee Member and Party Secretary of the Second Clinical Medical School Xu Jun attended the opening and closing ceremonies of the sports meeting. The57th Sports Meeting of SXMU kicked off with the opening ceremony beginning at 8 a.m. on May 11th. As a tradition, the ceremony started with a parade. Taking the majestic Athlete March as the background music played,the students with neat paces, sonorous slogans and tidy clothes,led the parade carrying the national flag, the school flag and the red flowers followed by the judges’ team and 29 athletes’ teams from different schools. This year, the International Education Schoolteam, which consisted of more than 70 international students from 13 countries, was a beautiful scene in the opening ceremony and their cheerleading performance was motivating and attention-grabbing. Besides, there are representatives from our nine new affiliated-hospitals participating in the sports meeting, including the Sixth Clinical Medical School (the Sixth Hospital Affiliated), Fenyang Clinical Medical School (the Fenyang Hospital Affiliated), the Seventh Clinical Medical School (the Seventh Hospital Affiliated), the Eighth Clinical Medical School (the Yuncheng Hospital Affiliated), the Ninth Clinical Medical School (the Taiyuan Central Hospital Affiliated), the Tenth Clinical Medical School (the Xinzhou Hospital Affiliated), the Eleventh Clinical Medical School (the Jinzhong Hospital Affiliated), the Fifteenth Clinical Medical School (the Lvliang Hospital Affiliated) and the Mental Health Medical School (the Mental Health Hospital Affiliated).
After the solemn flag-raising ceremony, Party Secretary, Zhang Junlong, announced the opening of the 57th Sports Meeting. At that moment, a 57-gun salute sounded and theentire campus was jubilant.

President Li Sijin made the opening speech. He first pointed out thatphysical education was an important part of university personnel training, and it played an irreplaceable role in strengthening physical integrity and cultivatinga healthy personality. Takingthe all-round development of the school members as thecore principle and pursuing excellence as the goal, our university actively promoted the sports work, constantly improved the physical education and had made great progress inphysical education, sports competition,and mass sporting activities. In 2017, the school aerobics team wonfirst prize and the All-Star Championship in the 19th Chinese University Basketball Cheerleading Championship. On behalf of the students in Shanxi Province, our university participated in the gymnastics competition of the 13th National Students Student Sports Meeting and won the 10th place in Men's Singles and the12th place in Men's Group Five Competition. Moreover, appointed by the Ministry of Education, we would participate in the 2018 World University Students' Championship in Poland in October on behalf of the national university students. Besides, our volleyball team, taekwondo team and basketball team also had great results in the provincial competitions.The sports meeting had become an important part of campus culture and campus life.
President Li also stressed that our university would undertake some events of the 2nd National Youth Sports Meeting, which set new criteria for our physical education and work. It required us to perfect the teaching system, to improve the sports facilities, to create the sports atmosphere and most importantly, to promote the formation of a high-level and characteristic sports culture for a research-oriented medical university.
In the end of his speech, President Li Sijin, expressed his hopes that all the athletes would fight hard to fulfill their dreams and strive for the best; all the judges would be fair; all staff would serve carefully; and all the school members would actively participate in competitions. He wished the sports meeting to be a magnificent, solidarity and great event, as well as a gift for our hundredth anniversary ceremony in 2018!
Later, a dance group consisting ofretired faculty members and the students,performed a grand dance show called “Beautiful Mood”. Together with the report-back theme-show “Learning in Physical Education”performed by 380 students, the campus was up again.
The sports meeting set up 64 competitive events and 8 novelty events. With around 2302 school members’ participation, this sports meeting was definitely the biggest one in our school’s history. After two days of fierce competition, the First Clinical Medical School, the Second Clinical Medical School, the School of Forensic Medicine, the School of Management, the School of Pharmacy and the School of Nursingwere the top six in groups scores of the students’championship. The First Clinical Medical School, the Second Clinical Medical School, the Division of Logistic Affairsand the School of Stomatology won the top four prizes in groups scores ofthe faculties’ championship. The First Clinical Medical School, the Second Clinical Medical School, the School of Nursing, the School of Pharmacy, the School of Physical Education and the School of Humanity and Social Science were awarded as the advanced collectiveswith spiritual civilization in students’ championship. The School of Anesthesiology, the Division of Logistic Affairs and the School of Stomatology were appraised as the advanced collectives with spiritual civilization in students’ championship.

On the afternoon of May 12, the sports meeting successfully ended up with the closing ceremony in the stadium of Zhongdu Campus and Party Secretary, Zhang Junlong gave a speech. He first expressed great congratulations to all the athletes for their good performance and achievements in the Sports Meeting, and the sincere gratitude to all the judges, the coaches and the staffs for their efforts for this event. Then he praised the high sense of responsibility and the positive metal state of our school members, which fully demonstrated our school ethos “dedication, pragmatism, unity and progress” and school spirit “to be truth-seeking and perseverance”.Finally, he called on all the school members "work hard toward a goal and strive to fulfill the dream. Life, not just sport, requires the Olympics spirit‘Faster-Higher-Stronger’. To be strong, to face all blow with pride.”In the end, the school leaders also awarded the winners from the university basketball championship, from the cheerleading championship and from the “Beauty Teacher” elections.
