Shanxi Medical University was founded in 1919 and has a history of running a school for 90 years.

Its predecessor was the Shanxi Medical Institute founded by Yan Xishan, then governor and governor of Shanxi Province. In the turbulent years of old China, the school changed its name and changed its location many times. In January 1932, it was changed to a private Shanxi Chuanzhi Medical College, and Yan Xishan (word Bochuan) personally served as the chairman of the school. In March 1940, it changed its name to the Medical Specialty of Shanxi University. In August 1946, he was upgraded to the Medical College of National Shanxi University. After the founding of New China, the school has entered a new period of development. In September 1953, the school was established independently and changed its name to Shanxi Medical College.

When the colleges and departments of colleges and universities across the country were adjusted in 1955, the health departments of Shanxi, Jiangsu, Shandong and Zhejiang medical schools merged to form the health department of Shanxi Medical College, which became one of the six medical colleges and universities that retained the health department in the country. Shao Xiangyi, a famous national health expert, national first-class professor and former dean of Jiangsu Medical College, is the dean. In April 1996, it changed its name to Shanxi Medical University.
