Shanxi Medical University (SXMU) is a century-old institution founded in 1919. It holds the distinction of being: One of the third batch of national and first batch in Shanxi Province to grant doctoral degrees. Among the first Chinese universities authorized to confer master's and bachelor's degrees. A pilot institution for the Ministry of Education's "Excellent Doctor Education and Training Program." A university supported by the National Midwestern Higher Education Revitalization Plan. Recognized as one of the "Top Six Traditional Medical Schools" in China's healthcare system and selected as one of the 18 high-level public health schools nationwide, SXMU has evolved over 106 years into a comprehensive medical university. It integrates medicine with engineering, science, humanities, and management, offering a complete talent cultivation system spanning undergraduate, master's, and doctoral programs, with a primary focus on undergraduate education.

School of Public Health, Shanxi Medical University, with a history of 74 years, the School of Public Health traces its origins back to 1951, when the discipline of public health was first established. In 1953, the Department of Public Health was formally founded, and by 1955, it became one of only six remaining public health departments in Chinese universities at the time. In 1996, it was renamed the School of Public Health, Shanxi Medical University. In 2022, the school was selected for the National High-Level Public Health School Development Initiative, a testament to its academic strength. The school currently hosts: Ministry of Education(MOE) Key Laboratory of Coal Environmental Pathogenicity and Prevention, 2 provincial-level key laboratories, 7 university-level research institutes, Reverse Pathogenomics Research Center (Academician Workstation). The school offers two undergraduate programs: Preventive Medicine and Health Inspection & Quarantine, as well as Master of Public Health (MPH) and Master/PhD programs in Public Health and Preventive Medicine.
